Part 1: For the Vanilla Cake
Ingredients
  • 140g – Butter
  • 180g – Sugar
  • 100g – Whole egg
  • 30g – Vegetable oil
  • 120g – Milk
  • 120g – Yogurt
  • 4g – Vanilla essence
  • 110g – Cake flour
  • 110g – Plain flour
  • 5g – Baking powder
  • 1g – Baking soda
  • 3g – Salt
Method
  1. Preheat oven to 170°C, prepare a 11” x 6” tray with parchment.
  2. In a stand mixer cream butter and sugar until light and aerated.
  3. Mix egg and oil well, slowly drizzle into the creamed butter while constantly mixing.
  4. Pour in milk, yogurt and vanilla essence, mix until well combined.
  5. Sift all dry ingredients into the bowl, mix until just combined.
  6. Pour batter into tin and spread evenly, tap to remove excess air bubbles.
  7. Bake for 15minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
Part 2: For the Chocolate Cake
Ingredients
  • 140g – Butter
  • 180g – Sugar
  • 100g – Whole egg

  • 120g – Yogurt
  • 4g – Vanilla essence
  • 40g – Deep Russet Cocoa Powder
  • 90g – Cake flour
  • 90g – Plain flour
  • 5g – Baking powder
  • 1g – Baking soda
  • 3g – Salt
Method
  1. Preheat oven to 170°C, prepare a 11” x 6” tray with parchment.
  2. In a stand mixer cream butter and sugar until light and aerated.

Part 3: For the Strawberry Jam
Ingredients
  • 450g – Strawberries
  • 50g – Sugar
  • 30g – Lemon juice
  • 1g – Citric acid
  • 50g – Water (Optional)
Method
  1. Crush strawberries in a pot.
  2. Mix in sugar and lemon juice.
  3. Bring mixture to a boil until thick and syrupy texture.
  4. Add in citric acid and mix well.
  5. Blend it up until smooth for easier application.
  6. Leave aside to cool completely.
  7. Add enough water into the mixture to your desired consistency.
Part 4: To Assemble
Method
  1. Slice the cakes into rectangular and even stripes.
  2. Lay first layer of alternating colored cake and spread a thin layer of strawberry jam.
  3. Lay second layer of alternating colored cake making sure that no similar colors. are next to each other and spread another thing layer of jam. Continue steps until all cake is used up.
  4. Leave cake to chill before trimming both edges for a neater surface.
